Southern Food And Beverage Museum

The Southern Food & Beverage Museum is a nonprofit living history organization dedicated to the discovery, understanding and celebration of the food, drink and the related culture of the South. While based in New Orleans, the Museum examines and celebrates all the cultures that have come together through the centuries to create the South’s unique culinary heritage. SoFAB also hosts special exhibits, demonstrations, lectures and tastings that showcase the food and drink of the South.

The Rouses Culinary Innovation Center by Jenn-Air is a licensed commissary kitchen within the Southern Food & Beverage Museum. The Center serves as a demonstration kitchen, laboratory, studio, meeting space, and venue. The 1300 square foot kitchen is equipped with state-of-the-art Jenn-Air appliances and a wide selection of culinary equipment. The kitchen can be accessed through the museum or through its own door at 1830 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Please joined The Best of Bycatch, will take place at the Southern Food and Beverage Museum on June 20th, 2017 at 5PM as part of our Culinaria Query educational series, in support of Eat Local NOLA, and co-sponsored by Restore the Mississippi River Delta. 

Culinaria Center is a food law and policy institute that is part of the National Food and Beverage Foundation. Culinaria Center seeks solutions in support of a food system that is integral to improved health outcomes, sustainable environmental goals, and real community development. Culinaria Query is an educational series constructed to highlight interesting food-related topics and what part they play in our food system. Invasive species to the Gulf are impacting not only the coastline, but also the seafood that is available to us commercially. This event is intended to highlight ways our community can play a part in preserving our ecosystem in our favorite way: by eating them.

With a new location at the iconic Mardi Gras World, the Grand Tasting experience at NOWFE showcases more than 1000 domestic and international vintages alongside delicious foods served by over seventy-five of New Orleans’ finest chefs and purveyors. 

Wine connoisseurs will take pleasure in the opportunity to meet winemakers, ask questions and taste special appellations from across the globe. Novice wine drinkers will simply enjoy the experience of trying many new wines and learning what they like about different styles, varieties and price ranges. All attendees will appreciate the prospect of chatting with well-known and up-and-coming chefs in the culinary community. Be on the look out for dishes entered in competition in hopes of winning a Fleur de Lis Culinary Award.
